Mini Didi's Choice

Image
As I read the subject of Indispire, his week, a true story instantly came to my mind. Here it is for all of you…I will try and keep it as short as possible.  When we were little kids, one of our friends had an elder sister called Minaxi. We all called her Mini Didi. As kids, she was our role model. A state level swimmer, quite decent at her studies too, vivacious, very well spoken and exuberant. Our mothers told us to follow her example and be as disciplined as she was.  The years passed and Mini Didi went away to college to another city. We didn't hear much about her for a very long time until we got her wedding invitation.  It was wonderful and the event was as much fun as we all had expected and Mini Didi was far from the blushing bride that we all hope to see.  Then, few more years later, I had to deliver some parcel to Mini Didi in the town where she lived with her in-laws. I looked forward to visiting her because it was always fun when she was aro...

R.I.P....T.V.

On the stray occasion that I turned on the TV, which happened to be last night, here’s what I got to see. This is a leading GEC and it is the prime slot of a re-enacted crime series. What’s happening is something like this… A young married bride is cornered by her ‘evil’ in-laws. She is being interrogated. The subject of this harassment is that her bedsheet from her first wedding night is ‘spotless’. Which means that she was probably ‘soiled’ before marriage. In order to test her piousness, she is being made to hold a searing hot iron rod. If she doesn’t burn, she’s ‘pure’. We all know which way that’s going isn’t it? Elsewhere, a bunch of women of the house are gathered around the kitchen wondering how to get rid of the ‘shraap’ of the snake or fly or mongoose (whatever, I didn’t bother to wait and hear) which has befallen upon their household, and on yet another channel, a couple of so-called educated women are silently plotting against one another becaus...

Our latest work has gone viral

Image
So when I started  my agency last year, with my husband Anand Karir as the creative mentor, we had consciously decided to only put out the kind of work we would be spoken for. This latest ad for Finolex, which we created in media collaboration with Focus Circle went viral within seven days of us uploading it on social media. I am so proud of being a part of this commercial.

Colour...to get the colour back into your life

Image
A few days ago, I got into, what a lot of people call, a creative block. I'll mainly blame it on the hot, sweltering Bombay heat...but it has also got to do with the fact that the daily routine can get to people more often than we think. Especially those who are constantly looking for some creative inspiration. So, in the midst of a dull day like that one, I decided to take a walk to the local book store to enliven my mind just a bit. Among the various book shelves, I spotted colouring books. Now while I would have normally not halted before that shelf, simply because my Kiara is way past her colouring age, the words "Colouring book for adults" got my attention.  As I opened them with the greatest of curiosity, I was greeted with numerous lovely designs and posters and drawings in black and white, waiting to be filled by people like you and me.  While I didn't buy the book, the subject piqued my curiosity and I came home to do a bit of google research on ...
