Decoding skin serums and why all women must use them

Image
I am not much of a skin care person and for me, skin care means washing, moisturizing and occasionally, a face pack or something simpler. Recently, for an article I wrote for someone, I was asked to do a bit of research on skin serums. I’ve seen a lot of ads on TV for skin serums but they are quite expensive so I never really bothered to try one. But now that I know more about them, I must share some info with all you girls…here it goes. The difference between a moisturizer and skin serum? Moisturizers keep the skin hydrated by putting a protective barrier between it and the outside. So basically, it doesn’t allow the moisture to evaporate from your skin. Serums, on the contrary, are formulated to penetrate deeply into the skin to deliver key ingredients which hydrate and enhance the quality of your skin. What are the benefits of a skin serum? - lighter than creams, lotions - it is water based and do not contain oils - fast, and better acting than creams because it ha...

Sibbling proof your child

Image
My cousin from the US is having a lot of sleepless nights nowadays. She is expecting her second baby in a couple of months but her first one is four and he’s suddenly become very nervous and apprehensive about his future sibling. “Sometimes,Suni,” she complains, “he sits under the table for hours, playing with his own toys and not talking to anyone of us. I’m beginning to get worried.” Your first-born child has enjoyed your undivided attention for his entire life, so he is unlikely to automatically warm up to the arrival of a new baby in the house. But if you carefully prepare for it beforehand, it definitely won’t be as tough as you think. Remember, from the day you find out that you are pregnant to the day the baby actually arrives - you have plenty of time, so use it to ease your toddler through the transition. Here are some ideas... Inform your toddler about the new arrival But not too soon! Your little one is too little to retain too many things in his tiny hea...

Why most people are unable to achieve their dreams?

Some days ago, I came across this very interesting cartoon about productivity. It's simple and when I find myself slipping, I draw it to come back on track. I'm not a good artist at all. But I'm hoping you will get what I am saying.

Hair care for swimmers

Image
I dread going swimming especially in summers...ironical because it's the best time to swim.  While a swim in the pool can do wonders for a heat-stricken body, the same cannot be said about its effects on my hair. While in the pool, it's wonderful, after a few hours, my ar ends up looking like a bird nest. But here are some things you can to keep the 'straw hat' hairstyle at bay.  1.  Wet it Look before you leap.   If you are a regular swimmer,  you must have seen the showers that  surround the pool .  They are there for a reason  more important than pool decoration .  Hair soaked with fresh water is less likely to soak chlorine. D ouse that hair well under the shower before you jump in.  2.  Keep it covered Always make sure that you wear a rubber, swimming cap. It is that messiah that will keep out most of the damage done by chlorine water, even if it cannot keep all the water out. And please don’t complain that it’s too tight becau...

Simple exercises for healthy hair

If someone had told us that hours in front of the TV or computer would lead to bad hair, TV would have long been out of fashion. Surreal but true that these activities cause poor blood circulation to the head and with added stress of work, studies and bad posture, it can lead to dull and lifeless hair. Here are a few simple exercises which will improve blood circulation to your hair. I wrote down these tips when I was recently doing research on another article. I hope this will be of help to you all. Touch your toes But isn’t this an exercises to get inches off your waist? Well, you’ll be surprised that it works as well for your hair too. Stand with your feet apart and breathe in and out slowly. As you breathe in, lift both arms at the same time, stretching them upright and gradually, while bringing them down, release your breath and try touching your toes. Count five, without breathing in. Once done, gradually breathe in while coming up and taking your arms upright again. ...

Egovernance...bringing the government to the common man's desktop

Image
I grew up in the eighties and nineties. Access to the government was almost nil. Once you had voted for them, it was the end of that. Who knew what happened between that and the next election? BEFORE E-GOVERNANCE CAME INTO PLACE - Was the nation really progressing? - What were the government's plans to get there? - What was the proof of progress? - How could we, as common citizens participate in this process? - We had to stand in lines for forms and other Government documents. - If we had a problem or complaint, we didn't know who to get in touch with. For us, any government procedure meant a shudder down our spines. Anything to do with a form and a government process meant long lines to get forms and even longer lines to get the work done. People in the city at least had access to the offices…but people who lived in suburbs, smaller towns and rural areas had it real bad. It meant a trudge all the way to the nearest city and then waiting and more waiting. From...
