House Help apps and how they are a boon to most of us

 

 

I had it just about enough. Ten days before Diwali and the woman had done it once again. She had abandoned me when I needed her the most. When i was most vulnerable. And it was something that she had done not once, but two Diwalis repeatedly. 

My maid, someone who I trusted and had given her every possible leeway. So i decided that I had had enough of her nonsense and did not want her to work at my place any longer. Nothing that she would say or do would make a difference to me. 

 Before every Diwali, she would take a long sick leave and come back with a super long face. And not do any Diwali cleaning at the time when I needed it the most. This time, it became too much for me to bear since i had an assignment which I had to do. 

And at that time, there was someone who came to my rescue. The maid apps which have started in my area. We can get maids at the click of one button on the apps. Unfortunately, they were all backed up because of Diwali. Every one wanted these maids. I had to look after the house as well as there was so much work to do outside. 

But after patience and searching and waiting, the slots would open and the maids would turn up. It was such a respite. After i returned to Mumbai from Diwali, the first thing i did was buy a vacuum cleaner robot for myself. Along with a spin mop and a monthly subscription for myself from these apps. There were a couple of advantages for me. 

To begin with, they were cheaper than the normal maids. I got a great deal and I got maids for 30 days at one third of the cost of my earlier maid. Secondly, i could choose the time that they could come. It would be at my convenience and not the convenience of the maid. 

Thirdly, there would not be a single day off. Which meant that i would get a replacement maid every single day. No more sick leaves or unnecessary days off. Its been over a month since I have been getting daily maids from an app called Pronto. Secondly, I do not have to pay an unnecessary bonus to the maids which is one monthly salary extra. My earlier maid has enjoyed that facility without even doing any proper Diwali cleaning.

Honestly, I am so happy with the arrangement that i am considering never getting a full time maid in my life once again. After air conditioning, this is the next thing for which i am so filled with gratitude. The past month has taught me to be independent, we would take turns in washing the dishes until we got the monthly subscription...we used technology to its best advantage because of the robot vacuum and mop. I even got a dishwasher for my hometown since maids are a problem there too. I do not feel grudge anymore in case the maids do not come. It used to be a constant headache for me because I have two maids who were best friends. I dont care if either of them do not turn up. Maids have been harrowing for me in the past and now, I totally feel free because of this arrangement. 

There are a lot of apps which have this arrangement. Snabbit, Pronto and Urban company are the ones which I have used. And they work fine, though Pronto has the best maids and I like their subscription model. This model for maids is worth looking into. I wish there are more apps like these and we get a wider choice of house help.
