If you like it, go for it
Last year, I did something which I wish I had done many
years ago. I did LASIK surgery on my eyes and for the first time in 25 years, I
actually could see without my glasses. Oh those hideous, ugly glasses…only a
person wearing them will know the disadvantages of living with this horrible
accessory. I have lived through the phase of hard lenses, semi soft lenses and
even the change everyday super soft ones. But trust me, nothing compares to
seeing with your own eyes.
I am in my mid thirties and one doctor tried to discourage
me saying that it was too late. I would in any case, get reading glasses in the
next five years, so I should not waste money for these five-six years.
So then I did what was best for me. I went to another doctor.
I’d avoided the eye surgery for the past ten years but now, I was so sick and
tired of glasses and lenses that even if it was for a year, I wanted to
experience being glass-free…something which I hadn’t been since I was in the
sixth standard. No more horrible lenses, no more being afraid of sitting on my
glasses and breaking them…and the best benefit of them all???
Eye Make up!!! For years, I avoided wearing kajal or
eye-liner because I was afraid that my lenses would
smudge…or I would get an eye infection. But now, I can do that whenever I please…and I could not have been happier.

After consulting and through examination by another, better doctor,
I got myself operated just a day before Independence Day, last year. Today, looking back on the year gone by, it’s the best thing
I did for myself, ever.
There are a lot of us who are unhappy about our external
appearances. Of course, we all know that inner beauty matters and all that…but
if there is something that bothers you about yourself, makes you feel less
confident, you have every right to do something about it.
- If you are ashamed about your balding, get proper treatment or a hair transplant.
- If your nose is crooked and if you hate it, you have every right to change it.
- If your hair is graying and you don’t like it, colour it.
- If you are tired of being called fat, and are constantly self conscious about it, go to doc and get a proper exercise and diet regimen.
Take that leap of faith |

I myself wear glasses and repeatedly whine when they break just after I bought them , its a curse . I am twenty one and sceptical about a laser surgery for my eyes even though doctors have prescribed me to go with it, perhaps someday I’ll pluck up the courage just like you did :)
ReplyDeleteNisa, What are u waiting for? Ur so young. Just go for it. It's just a couple of days of discomfort and for a few months u will have to put eye drops. It's like getting a new life. Go to a good doc and consult. Once he has explained everything to u, u can take the decision. Trust me, it will be the best thing u will do for yourself.
DeleteI have never worn glasses but know how it feels like,In my family and friends all except me have glasses. I am a bit skeptical about cosmetic surgery. Lasik is something I will suggest my brother to go for (On specs since Class 7) but Body part beautification like nose, lip, cleavage and all i am a bit skeptical. Cancer is the word that pops in my mind first (I am Cancer phobic its an OCD). But then people have every right to do it if they feel like it. Their body, their choice.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Datta.I wasted a good ten years before taking the decision. Sigh!!! Wish I had someone to tell me this earlier. I guess, sometimes we have to leave our fears behind.
